IIoT Gets an Upgrade with Smart Sensor Interface

By Ken Briodagh July 10, 2015

The growth of the Industrial IoT (IIoT) is critical to the success of the larger IoT industry, in that industrial companies will form the backbone of Smart City and infrastructure implementations.

Numerex Corp, a provider of interactive M2M solutions for the IIoT, recently announced the availability of nxLINK, a ruggedized, compact, battery-operated “smart sensor interface” that will facilitate data management at the edge for industrial clients. The new device provides wireless sensor-connections and will be a key component in the company's nxFAST IIoT platform from now on.

Numerex's nxLINK interface harvests data from sensors and wirelessly transmits the captured data to a cellular or satellite communicator or to a local smart control panel. Designed for maximum flexibility, the nxLINK helps users to configure data collection triggers based on time of day or detected sensor value changes, for example. It can handle up to four digital dry contact or analog sensors simultaneously and is water and dust resistant so it can withstand the most demanding manufacturing and remote outdoor monitoring installations.

“Companies are starting to understand the power of the IIoT to transform their processes and are seeking affordable, robust solutions to capture and transmit data in real time, with a minimum of disruption during installation or while in use,” said Jeff Smith, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer, Numerex. “When paired with the Numerex Network, advanced IIoT devices and applications built on nxFAST technology, the nxLINK serves as part of a full-range of critical components useful for deploying IIoT solutions virtually anywhere.”

IIoT innovations like this are the beginning of systematic changes to the technological infrastructure of the world over. To educate yourself on the future of this critical industry, make sure you register for the IoT Evolution Expo, August 17 to 20 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
