IoT Evolution Speakers: Jeff Liebl Speaks Out

By

The IoT Evolution Expo is the only Internet of Things industry event focused on Enterprise-level strategic planning and engineering-lead solutions to IoT and IIoT challenges. We have invited a world-class speaking faculty to join us and help provide our conference delegates with the critical business intelligence they need to formulate strategy for the next year.

We reached out to our speakers and asked them for a preview for their sessions to give you a little taste of what to expect at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas July 17 to 20 for the IoT Evolution Expo. To register now, click here.

Jeff Liebl is President of Anaren IoT Group, which designs, manufactures and sells custom high-frequency solutions and standard components for the wireless communications, space and defense electronics, wireless consumer electronics, and IoT markets. In his panel with Syed Hosain of Aeris, Arthur May of MapQuest, and Angel Mercedes of Sierra Wireless, “Building IoT Platforms for Third Party Use,” he will dig into platforms and their implications.

IoT Evolution: What will be some key points you plan to hit in your panel?

Liebl: My session will focus on how to best navigate the final step in the “cold chain,” whether it be how to best adhere to new regulations, manage increased demand, or the importance of food safety. And, of course, I will be talking about the many benefits companies can reap by better managing this process.

The bottom line is that there is a growing opportunity here and there are ways for savvy businesses to “cut through the IoT fog” with an IoT development platform and wireless monitoring solution that are capable of easily integrating and remotely monitoring assets to increase revenues and decrease costs.

IoTE: What new insights can attendees expect to take home from your panel?

JL: Attendees joining my session will learn the benefits of monitoring their assets from the farm to the fork, so to speak.

A few examples are as follows:

  • A greater understanding of IoT as it pertains, and how, to navigate the cold chain.
  • What an effective solution looks like.
  • How to select and work with the right solution provider
  • The fastest path to success and ROI

IoTE: Can you identify a few important trends influencing your sector of the IoT which will shape the path of the industry? Why these?

JL: There is an ever-growing explosion of new IoT platforms, services and solutions that are connected to the Internet using “cloud” solutions. The trend seems to be that there is a platform for everything from automotive telematics, to healthcare management, to what I am going to talk about during my session.

Because of this, there is a subsequent, rapid growth pattern that is creating a massive new demand for efficient access to data across the IoT and, for this session, the “cold chain” in particular. Therefore, companies need to pay close attention to their specific needs and which platform most appropriately addresses those exact need(s).

IoTE: What are the biggest challenges facing the IoT? What are some important tools needed to overcome them?

JL: I think that because technology and devices are getting smarter, there are more and more regulations being put on companies and their developers, so it makes the path to true production more cumbersome and harder to achieve.

In addition, I think there are too many platforms and too much competition for end-users to decipher and choose appropriately from. While a smaller provider may have a stellar solution that is the best possible choice, because some of the bigger players “say” they have a solution that can solve “the problem,” a lot of companies will go with the name brand because, well, it’s the name brand so it must be good. This is not always the case, so the clutter and sheer volume of choices make it extremely challenging for companies seeking the right solution to make the best choice.

As far as overcoming these issues? I think being diligent, taking the necessary time to evaluate the right platforms or solutions and to not always opting for the “big guys” just because they say that they have a solution and can solve your problem.

There are a lot of really solid smaller vendors out there with some very slick technology. And they should often times be considered over the more household names.

IoTE: Which vertical markets have the most to gain from IoT implementation? Which are leading and which are still behind the adoption curve?

JL: I’d have to say that automotive (telematics) is leading the way. At least they are getting most of the ink. With the autonomous car on the horizon and in-car technology on every car buyer’s wish list, it makes sense that this vertical is getting a lot of attention and subsequent traction. Some other hot areas include the connected home, the food industry and, obviously, the retail market.

IoTE: What session are you most looking forward to attending at the Expo? Why?

JL: I’m really looking forward to the Battle Royal. It goes hand-in-hand with what I was saying earlier. There are so many platforms out there and the Battle Royal will be a really solid medium that will help clarify the strengths of these solutions and what companies should be looking for and what to expect in return. I’m also particularly interested in the Executive Summit. But the Battle Royal is going to be excellent and what I am most excited for.
