By

Welcome to the IoT Evolution Week in Review, my friends. This week, it’s all about Smarter Science, Smarter Cities, Smarter Buildings and more in this IoT Evolution Week in Review Let’s get into it, shall we?

In our lead story, scientists at Elemental Machines are using AT&T Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to make their critical lab equipment smarter. The release outlines how the Elemental Machines Sensory Network gives science-based industries data-driven insights to help customers improve lab operations, research, development and manufacturing. Now, this new partnership with AT&T IoT solutions is making lab monitoring has never been easier for them by constantly monitoring equipment and the environment to glean additional information and improve consistency to avoid research setbacks.

In a wonderful guest column from our newest special correspondent, Arti Loftus, we heard about how Honeywell and Huawei have joined forces to deliver the future of smart buildings in a fast growing technological environment, bringing together Honeywell’s knowledge of improved quality of life and energy efficient solutions with Huawei’s expertise in ICT delivering the vision of smart residential living to Brisbane’s innovative Skytower.

And now, the news: HashiCorp, a cloud infrastructure automation provider, has joined in a multi-year collaboration with Microsoft to deepen support for the provisioning of Microsoft Azure cloud services with its HashiCorp Terraform product. HashiCorp Terraform is used to build, change, and version cloud and on-premises infrastructure.

DENSO Corporation, Ericsson, Intel Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), NTT DOCOMO, Toyota InfoTechnology Center, and Toyota Motor Corporation have announced that they have initiated the formation of the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium.

DigiCert, a scalable identity and encryption solutions for enterprise and Internet of Things (IoT) security provider, has made public the hiring of Mike Ahmadi as Global Director of IoT Security. Ahmadi will help build DigiCert IoT security solutions for critical infrastructure markets including healthcare, transportation, industrial, and smart city.

The Weather Company, an IBM Business, recently announced that it is enhancing its global flight operations solution WSI Fusion, with live flight tracking data from FlightAware. WSI Fusion provides early insight into changing flight, airport and airspace conditions in order to enable aviation providers to carefully plan and track flights, optimize operations and reduce the impacts of disruptive events.

On the IoT Time Podcast, I sat down with Khamis Abulgubein, PLM, Emerging IoT Applications at Nokia, to talk about Smart City, Connected Transportation, IoT citizen services and enterprise partnerships. This episode is sponsored by IoT Evolution Presents: Enterprise Implementations at Mobile World Congress Americas on September 14 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. To Join us or sponsor, send me a message.

Over the last few years, I have seen some major trends forming across nearly every vertical in the consumer and industrial spaces, and these trends looked like they were pointing toward a future where the IoT would indeed be improving the lives and living conditions of people all over the world, and so I decided to begin writing a book in order to look for patterns in those trends. That book, published recently, is called “IoT Time: Evolving Trends in the Internet of Things.

There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends.
