Happy IoT Day to the Industry 4.0 IIoT

By

It’s IoT Day today, and to celebrate, IoT Evolution is bringing you a little recap of the Industrial IoT highlights from the past year. The IIoT is where much of the innovation happens for IoT, and the vast majority of the field-ready executions. Here, we’re going to tease are a few of our recent favorites. For more on the IIoT, join us at The Industrial IoT Conference, June 6-7 at the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta, Georgia.

Johnson Controls acquired Smartvue, an IoT and video provider that enables cloud video surveillance and IoT video services. The company said that the addition of the Smartvue cloud-based video platform is designed to enhance Johnson Controls’ IIoT offering of an end-to-end, smart cloud based solution that can provide business data and intelligence to customers and add value for partners.

Orion Labs, a voice controls platform, unveiled several updates and engagements with industry leaders. These updates are designed to make it easier for IIoT organizations to improve responsiveness and productivity. The updates come at a time where enterprises increasingly look to voice as the interface to access and input information and to trigger time saving automated processes.

The IIoT is driving a new industrial revolution and all kinds of industries are affected, including agriculture. Smart farming technologies promise to help farmers monitor livestock, assess crop growth and soil quality, limit water use, control temperature, and more, so that raising crops and animals is easier than ever.

NXP Semiconductors announced its newest GSMA-compliant eSIM solutions that the company said ease the way for device manufacturers to bring consumers remote SIM provisioning and over-the-air updates with multiple Mobile Network Operator (MNO) subscriptions.

ABI Research published a report identifying drivers and inhibitors faced by IIoT platform providers and manufacturers looking to implement IIoT solutions. Some of the key advice from the report was: to broaden the capabilities of platforms to support and integrate emerging transformative technologies, to sell to IT but work closely with OT, and to choose partners that will provide consulting as they continue to evolve.

Honeywell introduced several new capabilities for its Honeywell Vector Occupant App. The new features are designed to give Smart Building occupants more control over their experiences within a building with the swipe of a screen. The most significant new feature is indoor navigation, which uses GPS-like technology to help users find their way around complex buildings that are difficult to navigate without directions. It’s already in use in the Minneapolis Skyway System, a complex interlinked network of enclosed pedestrian walkways spanning 80 city blocks.

Dell announced it will be the first authorized reseller of the Meta 2 Augmented Reality Development Kit, and is equipping companies with tools for AR technology applications. In partnership with Meta, Dell said it aims to make AR more accessible for business deployment, particularly in healthcare, manufacturing and construction, by providing tools for creating immersive experiences unique to the needs of those industries.

Iridium Communications began the process of launching all ten of its Iridium NEXT satellites for its fourth launch from SpaceX’s west coast launch site at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. This launch was the midway point of Iridium’s launch campaign with SpaceX.

SparkCognition began working with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) Americas to advance AI applications in a new digital platform from MHPS designed to optimize power plant processes by enabling cognitive analytics and prioritizing customer collaboration. MHPS is applying SparkCognition AI-powered solutions to combined cycle power plants as part of MHPS-TOMONI and further automating predictive insights.

Gemalto expanded IIoT connectivity with a new IoT module that provides global connectivity on 12 LTE bands plus 3G and 2G cellular coverage, all from a single device. The Cinterion PLS62-W IoT Module is designed to deliver efficient LTE Cat 1 connectivity on all 12 LTE bands while providing seamless fallback to multi band 3G and 2G networks if 4G is not available. This allows device manufacturers and integrators to develop one application that can connect anywhere in the world, even when solutions move between different regions and cellular network standards.

That’s just a sample of the hottest news happening in the IIoT space right now, and to keep up with these stories and all the other news, make sure you keep reading the the IIoT News, and register now for The Industrial IoT Conference, June 6-7 at the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta, Georgia.
