AirGate-GPRS System Integrates Cinterion's TC65i Quad-Band Wireless Module

Gemalto’s machine-to-machine (M2M) business segment and the provider of cellular M2M communication technology, Cinterion, announced that its TC65i quad-band wireless module has been fully integrated in theAirGate-GPRS System for remote monitoring and site automation.

Developed by a manufacturer of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), Novus Automation, the system links industrial equipment to backend computer systems providing 24/7 remote supervision. In manufacturing and building automation environments, secure wireless connectivity is provided by Cinterion high-performance plug-in and play module for remote monitoring and management of industrial processes.

Freeing up valuable computing power for innovative automation tasks such as controlling robots and improving energy efficiency in manufacturing, the Cinterion solution runs AirGate software directly on the module with a powerful embedded Java™ engine. For flexibility and easy integration with any automation system, the AirGate features multiple industrial interfaces.

A Brazilian solution provider, JMD Automação, reported immediate improved performance and efficiency after implementing the new Novus device at several manufacturing facilities in Brazil.  An applications engineer at JMD Automação stated that with minor or no changes to the infrastructure, Novus AirGate is the most flexible solution to implement remote access to an existing Modbus communication network.

“As system integrators, we are running extensive tests in actual applications and based on the first excellent results, we are confident in the successful deployment of monitoring and alarm applications in industrial facilities, water distribution management, among others,” added the engineer.

Marcos Dillenburg, technology director, Novus Automation mentioned that Cinterion’s design consulting and powerful Java-embedded solution simplified design and integration, and eliminated the expense of additional processors and memory.

For a more streamlined workforce, Cinterion’s wireless communication tools allow secure access into manufacturing from virtually any place, any time. By year-end, IMS Research estimates the global industrial automation market will reach $159 billion and top $200 billion by 2015, with as much as 65 percent of that growth in the Americas and Asia-Pacific.
