New 4G Router Adds GPS for Fleet Management

By Ken Briodagh May 28, 2015

Billion Electric, a global information and communication technology provider, has announced a new 4G LTE M2M router that will improve fleet management thanks to its integrated Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Dual SIM.

The router improves the connectivity of transportation fleets and, thanks to the power of 4G, makes real-time video streaming possible. To enhance its own new hardware, Billion is also seeking partners to add a management or cloud software for fleet management and together create a comprehensive platform solution.

“The increasing popularity of M2M progressively encourages the development of advanced network solutions that meet the niche demand for M2M business,” said Ted Ho, CTO, Billion Electric. “LTE is the future of internet communication [because] it provides significant bandwidth and reliable connectivity to support video and data service. Fleet management and public safety can benefit by having an increased operational efficiency and LTE also optimizes the system productivity and yield of industrial automation, financial segment, and energy.”

The M1000 router has been designed to integrate with any existing third-party fleet management or cloud software. With its included GPS tracking abilities, Billion said that it now significantly reduces response times, minimizes property losses and damage and can detect slowing and stopping motions, in addition to fatigued driving. Thanks to this suite of sensors and the connectivity of the router, controllers will be able to remotely slow speeding vehicles to ensure driver safety and record driving data.

The M1000 also supports on-board diagnostics for widely dispersed fleets, since individual vehicle positions and status can be shown on a live streaming dashboard, even in rough terrains and rural areas. Other features include image and data transmission and compatibility with Gigabit Ethernet, USB, and Wi-Fi.
