Wind River, a software developer for intelligent connected systems, knows a lot about the IoT. It has an end-to-end portfolio of solutions designed to address the emerging needs of the IoT.

“With the synergy and validation already achieved for Wind River Marketplace products, customers get almost immediate access to best-in-class embedded technologies to easily enhance the operating environment and accelerate market deployment,” said Dinyar Dastoor, VP and GM, operating system platforms, Wind River.

Wind River has announced an addition to its portfolio with VxWorks, a proprietary real-time operating system (RTOS). Its design is for use in embedded systems requiring real-time, deterministic performance. VxWorks can be used in professional fields such as aerospace, industrial and medical.

In the aerospace field, it can enhance productivity and deliver a real-time operating aerospace and defense equipment makers create robust products, speed development, and reduce risk. For industrial users, VxWorks provides an operating environment for connecting industrial devices. And medical professionals can use VxWorks tools to build an informational mapping guide to help medical equipment manufacturers create and certify connected, IoT-ready devices faster, while reducing risks and development costs.

“Working with Wind River, we were able to develop our Project Zero unmanned, tilt-rotor aircraft in record time,” said Dr. James Wang, VP of Research and Technology, AgustaWestland. The VxWorks real-time operating system allowed us to take a revolutionary approach in how we design and build our aircraft systems.”

Wind River is trying to make the IoT a little easier to understand and navigate.
