Mojio Drive Brings App Marketplace to Connected Vehicles

By Ken Briodagh August 12, 2015

Having a connected car is all well and good, supposedly, but for real functionality, users need to be able to customize. In order for that to happen, they need to be able to add and remove software, like on a mobile device. They need an app store.

Mojio, a leading open platform for connecting cars, announced recently its new Mojio Drive marketplace of apps and services for nearly every car on the road today. By plugging the Mojio device into a car’s OBD port, consumers can now unlock the vehicle’s data and access an ever-growing suite of connected car apps and services to enhance the driving experience. App categories include vehicle maintenance and repairs, roadside assistance, auto insurance, safety and security and productivity.

“We know that drivers want their cars to be more like their smartphones. There are at least as many connected car use cases as there are app developers, and so an open platform for building apps is essential to giving people what they want,” said Jay Giraud, CEO, Mojio. “With more than 800 developers using Mojio’s open platform creating apps and services that span the entire automotive market, Mojio is at the forefront of the connected car economy.”

Mojio has developed partnerships with AT&T, TELUS & Deutsche Telekom to make its services faster, simple to use and more reliable. Consumers can visit Mojio Drive in any web browser to discover the available apps and services. Some examples are: Gauge, a personal mechanic that provides maintenance reminders, diagnostics and roadside assistance; Cloak, a connected car theft tracker that monitors a vehicle’s location at all times; RepairLync, which acts as a digital interface between drivers and repair shops; and Onsurance that uses driving data to get owners better insurance rates.

All Mojio Drive apps and services require the Mojio 3G+GPS device, available for $149, which includes the first year of premium cellular service from AT&T in the US for nearly any car manufactured since 1996. Subscriptions after the first year are $4.99 USD per month, with no contract required.
