Modeshift Partners with LTCA for Smart Ticketing

By Stefania Viscusi November 17, 2022

Modeshift, a provider of contactless fare collection technology has announced its mobile ticketing and data collection system is now being used by Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) in the Wilkes-Barre, PA, and surrounding areas of Luzerne County.

The new mobile ticketing system makes it easier for riders to get tickets to their destination without having to worry about exact change or waiting in a long line to get the tickets. Instead, a mobile device or smart card linked to a debit or credit card requires only a few clicks to request and pay for a ticket.

“Our mobile ticketing platform and data fare collection system will dramatically improve ease of use for riders in Luzerne County and simplify back-end operations for LCTA,” said Miroslav Katsarov, CEO of Modeshift. “At Modeshift, we are committed to providing transit agencies with intelligent, user-friendly transportation solutions that improve efficiency and increase ridership.”

The companies worked together to plan, design and implement a system that would work to make the experience easier and better for riders. The core product of Modeshift, an account-based fare collection system, is hosted on Microsoft Azure and delivered as SaaS. With a data fare collection solution included, it also provides LCTA with insights and data to help improve and optimize transit routes and increase accessibility for all riders.

Passengers who do not own a mobile device can request a smart card to make payments and manage their accounts. The system also makes it easy for travelers to purchase tickets from anywhere.

“We’re excited to implement this new mobile fare technology with Modeshift to simplify the ticketing process for our riders throughout Luzerne Country who rely on us every day,” said Robert Fume, executive director for the LCTA.

“This new mobile ticketing technology eliminates the need of having the exact cash amount and offers our riders an opportunity to purchase a ticket directly from a mobile device or smart card, linked to their debit or credit card, without worrying about the exact amount of cash on hand.”
