The problem I am having these days is the technology is moving fast and the claims are ahead of the realities.
Having a company like Telit sharing its experience helps to ground decisions that could be caught up by the promises of tomorrow without delivering the results of today. Often these technologies are meant for specific purposes, and sometimes they are adaptable to other architectures when appropriate.
For example, I understand what 4G is beyond the marketing. It’s the final destination of where LTE (News - Alert) is heading. Now, some people talk about 5G solutions, but I doubt that 5G as described by current marketing will ever be as comprehensive a standard as LTE and 4G are today. That being said, the use of beam forming and “5G technologies” seem to be finding a niche.
The question becomes whether that niche is a match to the situation your enterprise faces.
Speaking with a friend on IoT security issues, he transformed the Input > Process > Output model for engineers into this model Input > Transmit > Output > Distribute.
His point was that the network is ultimately the security of the devices, and should be the basis of how you select your network. The bottom line for me is that I am not expecting to get “The Answer” from the webinar, but I am certainly going to understand the pragmatic network options better than I do today.
