New Platform Designed to Eliminate the Prototype to Speed Time to Market

By Ken Briodagh May 12, 2015

In an announcement on May 12, Zymbit, a company providing hardware and software tools for building IoT solutions, revealed the first three parts of its integrated IoT platform, which the company says is the first pre-configured hardware and software solution that is a finished, out-of-the-box-ready product designed to get projects into the market in days instead of months or years. It’s called Zymbit Orange (News - Alert).

In addition, the company also announced a new contest to find the top five inspiring and impactful IoT projects in the whole industry. A weighty goal to say the least.

Makers can post projects to the Zymbit website, and the winning projects each will receive the first five Zymbit devices to use for their projects. The company said it’s looking for the most creative projects that need help scaling to the masses. Projects should meet one or more of the

following criteria: a creative idea that will be brought to market; solves a real problem that scales; places importance on data security and authentication; collects unique data from the edge of the network. Contest winners will be announced on August 21, 2015.

“Like the motherboard was to personal computing, Zymbit Orange is to the IoT market,” said Phil Strong, CEO, Zymbit. “We're giving makers the first pre-packaged hardware and software platform built upon open components, so they can skip the painful prototype stage and start acquiring real world data and publishing it securely in a day.”

The Zymbit IoT platform consists of the following: connectivity software for connection, authentication, sharing data and remote device management; Orange hardware that's easy to customize and makes it easy to interact at the edge of the network for data acquisition and new user interfaces; Zymbit Iris that offers a new way to interact with IoT devices using color, touch and scale.
