IoT Evolution Expo Dispatch, Day Two: Divide and Conquer

By Carl Ford August 18, 2015

IoT Evolution Expo kicks off Day Two with our favorite hockey stick discussion, “Analyze This”, where the analysts discuss the market opportunities and defend the projections they have made. This session is particularly fun to listen to since the goal is to not agree on a specific, but instead on the overall market and vertical opportunities.

From there we go to the keynote by Larry Wall of Eurotech. Eurotech has been a solid partner to many application developers that have gone from Proof of Concept to products that are deployed and scale. Larry gives us tips as to strategic system-level design and makes business decisions that enable rapid innovation and changes occurring in the industry.

Marc Brungger, CEO of Spireon, and Joe Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing keep us on track with automotive assets. From the logistics of managing today’s innovative insurance models with Buy here/Pay here services to NASCAR’s grueling races and logistical support requirements, we get to see how IoT has improved the vehicle.

Next, we take off vertically with Simon Gharibian from Sikorsky who knows that IoT, combined with drones, three dimensional printing and other materials, is changing transportation and logistics. The challenges and opportunities in aviation have made it so that Sikorsky has launched a contest to reward innovation.

We then divide up into our breakout tracks where we go deep in the market opportunities:

M2M/IOT investigates the supply chain and the changes that are happening with the technology overall, and the power grid.

Connected Home looks at IoT from the consumer’s hearth and the way that gadgets and solutions are being added to home.

Connected transportation is looking at the automotive industry adoption of IoT beyond ‘telematics’ and to the nature of extending services. From infotainment to predictive maintenance, from the maker to the aftermarket, we see new opportunities.

Fog Computing, Analytics and Big Data get to the core of how the cloud is helping us manage information so that the edge of the network reporting and processing can be done where it adds the most value.

Developers look at the use of embedded systems and the importance of starting with a plan for security and processes.

We then come back together to get the perspective of Sky Matthews of IBM (News - Alert) on how a smarter planet is happening and what that means in the way of information management. Mike Troiano, VP of IoT Solutions at AT&T, will talk about the Fast Pitch effort and the way that innovation continues to explode with new opportunities.

We then come into the exhibit hall where we get to see what is possible and available today with the demonstrations occurring at the IoT Evolution Solutions Theater.

That’s not even close to all, so watch for coverage here and on Twitter (News - Alert) at #IoTEvolution and @IoTEvolution.
