Security Vendor Webroot Keeps IoT Systems Safe from Edge to Server

Security is the watchword of today’s IoT, and the industry is finally starting to come around to the realization that unless all of the parts of the IoT are secure, none of it is.

Webroot, an intelligent cyber security company has released its IoT Security Toolkit, designed to help IoT and IIoT developers integrate cloud-based, real-time threat intelligence services and intelligent cyber security into new solutions. The goal, Webroot said, is to protect critical IoT systems against modern malware, zero-day exploits, external threats and internal vulnerabilities.

Devices and systems in the IoT that have long-intended service lives need a proactive defense that leverages real time threat intelligence and is ready to adapt to tomorrow’s potential cyber attacks. The Webroot IoT Security Toolkit is designed to provide continuously updated threat intelligence from the Webroot BrightCloud Threat Intelligence platform, which actively scans the internet multiple times a day to detect and classify online threats.

The Webroot IoT Security Toolkit includes high performance, low system impact, small device footprint software Device Agents that detect new and altered files or anomalous conditions; Threat Intelligence Services to block malicious inbound attacks and prevent data exfiltration; and a Secure Web Gateway (News - Alert) cloud-based service that inspects and filters all incoming and outgoing traffic.

A more secure IoT is what we need and with products like this, perhaps we’ll get there sooner rather than later.
