Droplit.io Works to Put IoT on Every Screen

By Paula Bernier January 26, 2016

Many IoT platforms out there today are focused first and foremost on connecting devices. Droplit.io, however, is all about enabling connections between devices, between devices and apps, and between devices and humans, said Bryan Jenks, president of the startup during a conversation at this week's ITEXPO.

Droplit.io aims to leverage its cloud platform to enable connected device solutions providers to extend those devices so they can appear on every screen and work with every other device a consumer might have, he added. By every screen he’s talking about extending control of smart devices to big screen TVs, computers, set-top boxes, smartphones, and tablets. That can make for a smart connected home, and a more seamless and connected existence.

The company is a very early stage, mostly boot-strapped business out of Melbourne, Fla., led by Jenks and a fellow Florida State Technology graduate and with just five employees. It is starting out with a closed platform that businesses can elect to use with Droplit.io’s white-label apps or their own apps.

Jenks says Droplit.io is now working with power companies and telecommunications companies on enabling consumer applications.

“Those kind of companies are interested in delivering these kinds of experiences,” he adds.

According to a report released this month by ReportsnReports, the recent increase in the number of smart homes is a major driver influencing growth in the Internet of Things market from last year through 2019. The report also points to consumers' growing preference for technologically advanced products, which it says will lead to a compound annual growth rate for IoT of more than 43 percent by 2019. The leading vendors in the IoT devices market, according to this report, are Carrier Corp., Ecobee, Honeywell International Inc., Ingersoll-Rand plc, Nest Labs, LG, Motorola, Pebble, Samsung (News - Alert), Sony, AGC Group, DuPont, PPG Industries and Saint-Gobain.
