You may know Altaworx as a cloud PBX (News - Alert) company that also resells IP connectivity. But did you also know that Altaworx now offers services to connect IoT implementations?
Altaworx began catering to the IoT market last year, CEO Rickie Richie explained in an interview at ITEXPO (News - Alert) and IoT Evolution Expo this week in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Richie said Altaworx has reseller arrangements with AT&T and Verizon, so can provide its customers with better pricing than might otherwise be available to them.
The company can build data plans to suit any IoT customer’s needs, he said. For example, he added, if there’s a company with a smaller application and has a couple thousand devices, Altaworx can create a solution to fit that requirement.
Altaworx started life in 2001 as BellSouth (News - Alert) partner and selling IP phone systems. In 2011 it became a carrier, selling SIP trunking and IP PBX services. In 2013, AT&T selected Altaworx as its first partner in the AT&T (News - Alert) Partner Exchange Program. As a result, Altaworx customers to benefit from an AT&T IP network that the companies say offers unmatched functionality and accessibility.
While some other companies sell IoT connectivity, Altaworx said there aren’t a lot of players in the market, which Richie said is why the company got into this space. Other players offering IoT connectivity include the cellular carriers such as AT&T, Sprint (News - Alert), T-Mobile, Vodafone, and others. There are also other companies like Ingenu and SIGFOX that are using other technologies to deliver IoT connectivity.
In addition to offering IoT wireless access, Altaworx also offers a wireless backup solution and has an asset tracking application.
Additionally, Altaworx offers cloud-based server and voice services; mobile VoIP; hosted PBX; SIP trunking; mobility data plans and applications; and IP data services.
