IoT Evolution Expo: Mary Beth Hall of Verizon Gives Attendees a Deep Dive into ThingSpace

By Ken Briodagh January 27, 2016

Verizon’s (News - Alert) ThingSpace platform is the connectivity company’s all-in partner-friendly IoT domination play—and it’s going well.

At this week’s IoT Evolution Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mary Beth Hall, Director Global IoT Product and Development, Verizon, got on the main keynote stage in front of a crowd of thousands of IoT professionals and showed the power of the ThingSpace platform in all its in-practice majesty. (Ed. note: Ken is probably paraphrasing here.)

Hall has responsibility for developing Verizon’s new products. In her current role, she manages the ThingSpace Platform, a web portal that brings together tools for developers/customers to build, test and bring to market new applications, with the goal of simplification and rapid time to market. Prior to this role, she was responsible for promoting the strategic path forward for M2M core products and the negotiations with worldwide suppliers to deliver competitively priced modules and devices that run on the network.

In her keynote, she said, “IoT is the next big bet.” Since Verizon has made it clear that it has already pushed its chips onto the table, it wants to give those pocket aces a chance to become a full house on the flop. Or, in her words, “We want to take the friction out of IoT.”

Enter ThingSpace. The platform’s primary mission is to provide a dedicated network core and connectivity options to Verizon’s partner network while driving innovation across the IoT, especially in the company’s identified key sectors of agriculture, healthcare, consumer electronics and the sharing economy.

She also talked about some of the recent applications developed on the platforms, including three new end-to-end Smart Cities solutions and a Big Data analytics engine.

The goal is to help all the boats in the Verizon IoT ecosystem rise together on the IoT tide.

“We want to be able to partner with you,” she said. I think the audience was wise enough to listen.
