IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Verizon, Ingenu, IIC

By Ken Briodagh April 16, 2016

Hello, my IoT friends. This is the IoT Evolution World Week in Review, and April, it seems, has finally decided to break toward spring. We’ll get to the news in just a bit, but first a quick reminder about the IoT Evolution Expo in Las Vegas, July 11 to 14. If you want to get in on it as a sponsor or exhibitor, now’s the time, so hook up with Matt Gleeson, our Biz Dev maestro.

And now, the news:

Verizon (News - Alert) has spent the last several years making itself one of the biggest and most aggressive players in the IoT, and the last six months have been acceleration of partnership and deployment strategy. And last week, the company dropped a report outlining what it sees as a very positive next year for the IoT, “State of the Market: Internet of Things 2016.”

In Texas, Dallas has announced that it will partner with Ingenu, a connectivity deployment company, to roll out the company’s Machine Network in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It is available right now and the Network as deployed will provide IoT connectivity to the region and will cover about 2,100 square miles, and a population of more than 4.4 million people.

The Kansas City SmartPort freight-based economic development organization hosted Microsoft’s (News - Alert) head of supply chain management at its annual industry briefing to talk about how technology is changing the way companies produce and distribute products around the world.

The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) has launched another IoT testbed in partnership with RTI, Infosys (News - Alert), PTC and the Massachusetts General Hospital MD PnP Lab in order to apply the power of the IoT to healthcare delivery.

In guest posts this week, Jim Manias, VP, Advanced Systems Concepts, wrote about how IT automation will help the IoT and Sergey Lyubka, CTO and Co-Founder of Cesanta told us what the root of the problem with IoT development is.

This week on the IoT Time Podcast, I sit down with Cyril Brignone, CEO, Arrayent, to talk about Smart Home technology and how to get consumers on board and I chat with with Avi Freedman, CEO, Kentik, to talk about security, edge computing, and our future Skynet overlords.

There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Keep the IoT Evolution Expo in Fort Lauderdale in your calendar. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories. As always, if you have questions, comments, input or abuse, please send it to our editorial director, Ken Briodagh at kbriodagh@tmcnet.com or on Twitter (News - Alert) @KenBriodagh.
