KORE Partners with Apple to Deliver Carrier-Agnostic IoT

By Ken Briodagh July 25, 2016

About 80 percent of the mobile device OS market is made up of Android (News - Alert) devices. The IoT is an even higher percentage. Now, managed wireless network services provider KORE is making a bet on iOS for IoT with a new development partnership with Apple (News - Alert). The partnership allows KORE to provide businesses with a solution for rapid iPad-based IoT development and ROI.

Among the reasons for the predominance of Android devices is that the costs are lower, and the open source environment, so what are some of the reasons to deal with the additional hassle that comes with Apple? According to  Tom Rose, Director, Business Development at KORE Telematics, “what people have to look at long-term is what is the support model and the costs associated with an Android or other solution long term?”

He says that the Apple platform ensures better long-term cost controls and more reliable support. “iPad and iOS represent the most secure, powerful and convenient solution for business users to remain productive in every work environment,” said Rose. “Coupled with our field-proven software management solutions and global connectivity, we're able to help businesses deliver tangible, near-term returns from the IoT.”

KORE-powered iPads are designed to provide simplified and secure user operations by delivering pre-installed applications while delivering the processing speed, power and data capacity needed for complex workflows. Through enterprise-grade device and application management features, the company said IT departments can manage multiple layers of security and through Mobile Device Management apps.

Of course, the issue arises about how long it takes to push a security update to an iOS app, even in an emergency. “Our relationship with Apple helps quite a bit, so we can help with that process,” Rose said. “On top of that, we also have the ability to push the application out to the device…” after an update.
