Beer Me: Tech Firm Debuts IoT Data Visualization Framework for Brewery

By Ken Briodagh May 05, 2017

According to a recent announcement, tech developer Finger Food, in partnership with OSIsoft and Microsoft (News - Alert), has created an holographic application for U.S. craft brewery, Deschutes. With the HoloBridge solution, Finger Food set out to bring Deschutes’ operational data to a new level of understanding by drawing on Finger Food's game design and development chops, and leveraging user interaction and collaboration.

“To remain competitive in Industry 4.0, companies need to leverage the combined power of machine learning, IoT and holographic computing,” said Ryan Peterson, CEO, Finger Food. “Finger Food works across these technologies to deliver real solutions to complex business problems. For Deschutes, we created HoloBridge, a holographic framework for visualizing real-time machine learning data. Using this tool Deschutes now can see and discuss clear, accurate data and make better decisions faster to improve processes and save costs.”

This Mixed Reality (MR) application features life-size holographic brewery equipment with live streaming data, designed to offer context and insights from the PI Integrator for Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Cortana Intelligence. The application integrates of OSI's PI System and Cortana Intelligence, which Finger Food then combined with holographic technology. The result is a framework for visualizing actionable real-time IoT driven data that Deschutes will use to visualize and interact with information to eliminate production time losses and increase productivity.

“Finger Foods' holographic application is an incredible example of how, together, we empower our customers and the outcomes they are looking to drive,” said Caglayan Arkan, General Manager, Worldwide Manufacturing and Resources, Microsoft.

Finger Food is the first MR developer to join the RCIP, a collaboration between Microsoft and OSIsoft designed to advance Industry 4.0 initiatives.

“Mixed Reality will significantly impact manufacturing environments over the next decade and we're very excited to be collaborating with Finger Food as our first Red Carpet Incubation Program MR partner,” said Prabal Acharyya, Director, Worldwide Director IoT Analytics, OSIsoft. “Not only can our clients now benefit from accurate advanced analytics to improve their processes but they can see and interact with data, context and events from the PI System in real time with PI Integrator for Microsoft Azure with MR on HoloLens from Finger Food. This is truly ground-breaking.”
