IoT enablement technology like 5G networks, augmented reality and machine learning are driving innovation that is leading toward birth of Smart Cities all over the world. A new Smart Cities Technology Roadmap developed by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS (News - Alert)), a global organization that brings together information and communication technology (ICT) companies, is set to inform city planners about technology that will help make Smart City technology possible.
The Roadmap is designed for decision makers, including CTOs, CIOs and technology advisors, and it provides an overview of the network-enabled technologies that ATIS believes will have the greatest impact on the evolving Smart City. According to the announcement, the goal is to foster better budgeting, purchasing and staging decisions with a desired end result of positioning municipalities to effectively manage upcoming technology investments.
The Roadmap was developed through discussions with city leaders, solution providers and manufacturers and is available free on the ATIS website.

Following publication of this document, ATIS is gathering feedback on collaborative activities that can advance Smart Cities technology investments and is welcoming input from city planners. ATIS is engaging cities to develop prioritized next steps, from developing data exchanges to building on ATIS' Internet of Things registry or another business framework.
