CES (News - Alert) is known for its creativity and coloring outside the lines; it is nearly impossible to keep track of all the cool ideas rolling out in Las Vegas at one time.
One standout among the gadgets and the Google (News - Alert) takeover is a real first. For those of us who are passionate about connected things – and as passionate about ensuring children also stay connected to their family for so many good reasons – can’t help but love the Tabs consumer smart home and location solution which TrackNet and Senet are demonstrating this week, on a LoRaWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) deployment stood up amongst the chaos and casinos.
Tabs is an “all-in-one monitoring solution” which is literally roaming over Senet’s indoor and outdoor network; roaming makes it possible, for example, for a child with a wearable to be tracked inside and outside a family’s home.
Another timely use case is Tab’s ability to track workers in factories, on worksites, in government office buildings or any office building, to track senior citizens struggling with dementia and more…without having to access a cellular or IP network.
And that is meaningful.
“The key to success in the rapidly expanding IoT and Low Power Wide Area Network market is standardization, ecosystem strength, and scalable, cost effective network coverage,” the two companies’ announcement said, referring to their leveraging the LoRaWAN specification release 1.1 defining roaming and interoperability between different LoRaWAN network deployments.
The 1.1 specification was released in October 2017 and roaming between the Senet network and the TrackNet TrackCentral network for Tabs is the first production demonstration of the recently released LoRaWAN specifications in the world, and the first large-scale roaming demonstration using LoRaWAN.
