Microsoft (News - Alert) is not playing around with IoT.

In case anyone ever doubted that the Redmond giant was serious about the IoT, the compnay is putting its very impressive foot down to the tune of $5 billion over the next four years.

Accoridng to a post on the Microsoft corporate blog from Julia White, CVP for Microsoft Azure, the compnay is going to use this huge investment to "give every customer the ability to transform their businesses, and the world at large, with connected solutions." To illustrate how the company's been doing that since the beginning, she outlines several exixitng IoT partners like Steelcase, Johnson Controls and the Alaska DOT.

The past and present are not the focus here, however. It's about the future. "This increased investment will support continued innovation in our technology platform, as well as supporting programs," she writes. "We will continue research and development in key areas, including securing IoT, creating development tools and intelligent services for IoT and the edge, and investments to grow our partner ecosystem.
