According to a recent news release, and covered in an excellent blog post at The Stack, NTT (News - Alert) Group recently deployed a new smart city proof-of-concept in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the ongoing Las Vegas Digital Transformation plan.
Dell (News - Alert) Technologies was a partner on the project, which uses a distributed grid of networked sensors throughout the city to ship data to hyper-local data centers. The network reportedly includes cameras and environmental sensors to be used for public safety and to provide near real-time intelligence for emergency responders.
The data gathered is transmitted to localized, micro data centers placed throughout the city, the announcement states, and that date will be used to inform predictive and diagnostic analytical models.
The network is built on the NTT Group Cognitive Foundation architecture, and uses Dell’s infrastructure and VMWare NFV platform. Once the Las vegas project is deemed a success, NTT Group said it intends to do similar projects in several other US cities.
