IoT Partner Programs Switching to Renewable Energy Markets

By Greg Tavarez May 26, 2022

IoT is playing a key role in renewable energy production, ultimately saving the time and money. It’s also  become a growth opportunity for vendors. In 2022, the number of IoT edge-cloud and big data suppliers partnering with companies like AWS, Cisco (News - Alert), IBM,Microsoft, and other partner program parents in the renewable energy and utility sector is expected to increase.

Global technology intelligence firm ABI Research, in a recent analysis, found that parents of IoT partner programs are branching out into renewable energy verticals, while continuing to partner with system integrators, OEMs and professional services providers to enable end-to-end IoT solutions.

"Of those companies [serving the utility market], 61% are serving the energy and utility market powered by renewable energy sources, such as, but not limited to, wind, solar, hydro, thermal and nuclear power generation," said Kateryna Dubrova, IoT markets research analyst at ABI Research (News - Alert).

Nearly half of the vendors in the renewable energy and utility domain (108 out of 223 vendors) have a high level of technology maturity. More than 57% of those vendors are providing hardware-enabled IoT solutions and services. IoT sensitization and device connectivity services traditionally have the highest maturity and have an established partnerships with Dell (News - Alert), Intel and Oracle.

"ABI Research also observed an increasing number of partnerships with IoT companies targeting renewable energy monitoring, alerting, data processing and analytics service segments," said Dubrova.  "This indicates a departure from the traditional hardware-based offering to the emergence of value-added high margin data-enabled services in the IoT ecosystem."
