Standard 5G NB-IoT Connectivity Provider Joins IoT M2M Council

The IoT M2M Council, with more than 25,000 members, continues to support the deployment of IoT/M2M solutions by promoting use cases in industries like automotive, manufacturing, healthcare, public infrastructure and retail. The council that averages 300 adopters a week makes the benefits of connectivity visible to adopters.

Satellite connectivity provider Sateliot joined the IMC to raise awareness of its novel technology that seamlessly combines low earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity with more traditional cellular networks and under standard 5G protocols. The combined connectivity service allows for ubiquitous global coverage at a fraction of the cost of traditional satellite connectivity – which is also typically offered based on proprietary solutions.

"We welcome Sateliot and its unrivaled new technology to the IMC Board of Governors, and we expect to be hearing a lot more about it, and LEO technology in general, in the coming months," said IMC Chairman Romil Bahl, president and CEO of KORE.

Sateliot’s constellation is based on a 5G NB-IoT standard protocol, which is approved by 3GPP and developed alongside the telecom and IoT industries. End users who purchase off-the-shelf NB-IoT devices are able to connect directly to Sateliot’s satellite network with no need for any extra hardware such as antennas, modules or gateways.

"Our solution allows the same few-dollars NB-IoT RF module that works over cellular to connect, without any change in hardware, to our constellation of satellites, allowing basically seamless everywhere connectivity," said Sateliot CCO Gianluca Redolfi, who will represent the company on the IMC Board of Governors.

Sateliot launched its first satellite in March 2021 and plans call for the launch of a broader constellation by first quarter of next year through the SpaceX (News - Alert) program, with an eye toward commercialization in mid-2023.
