IoT Platform Company Soracom Announces Five Million Connected IoT Devices

While the idea of the Internet of Things (IoT) often focuses on the embedded sensors used to connect devices, less emphasis is placed on the IoT platform that holds all the devices together in a cohesive whole. However, the process doesn’t work if there isn’t an IoT connectivity platform that is device-, cloud-, and bearer-agnostic at its core, keeping consumer, business, municipal and professional customers connected to the cloud wherever they go.

Advanced IoT connectivity Soracom announced it is now keeping more than five million IoT devices connected around the globe. The rapid growth – the company announced hitting the four million device mark in January – is being driven by strong uptake of IoT devices in the energy sector (oil and gas) payments/point-of-sale (POS), healthcare, consumer electronics, agriculture among others. The five million IoT devices belong to more than 20,000 organizations, including startups, small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and large enterprises. Businesses across markets and of all sizes are seeing the benefits of IoT in their operations.

Soracom delivers IoT connectivity solutions to companies large and small to help them accelerate IoT deployment wherever they need to do business, minimize risk, and ensure successful, scalable IoT rollouts. The company offers commitment-free, pay-per-use connectivity services featuring speed to market, cloud-native integration and secure bootstrapping capabilities. Using the Soracom platform, IoT companies can connect any number of devices to their preferred cloud easily, affordably and reliably, with complete network control, anywhere in the world, said the company.

“Soracom’s powerful horizontal IoT platform makes IoT accessible to a growing number of partners, industries and applications,” said Kenta Yasukawa, cofounder and CTO of Seattle-based Soracom. “As a technology and business partner, we help customers in virtually every vertical offload heavy lifting to the cloud on terms that make sense for IoT. As we reach this milestone, we’re truly humbled by the ways Soracom customers and partners around the world are building new connected experiences.”
