IoT M2M Council Welcomes GEO Satellite Provider eSAT Global

By Alex Passett January 25, 2023

For IoT adopters and solutions providers, joining the ranks of the prestigious IoT M2M Council (IMC) is a moment of great significance. For instance, in September of 2022, satellite connectivity provider Sateliot joined the IMC and proceeded with major launches of low-Earth orbit nanosatellite tech. By proving strong businesses cases for IoT, the IMC brings together innovators from operations, product design, sales and marketing, and IT across vertical markets such as manufacturing, automotive, energy, healthcare, logistics and more.

Now, in fresher IMC news, low-cost geosynchronous equatorial orbit (GEO) satellite and IoT connectivity provider eSAT Global has joined the council to enable collaborations with IoT practitioners and develop top-tier GEO satellite solutions.

eSAT joining the IMC makes a heap of sense. With a global mission to bring disruptive, direct-to-satellite connectivity to low-cost IoT devices via GEO satellite technology, eSAT has a proven track record of bringing multi-billion dollar communications and services to market. With more GEO tech at their disposal, eSAT aims to offer greater connectivity capacities at lower per-message costs than alternatives. (And, notably, without needs for terrestrial base stations.)

A newly minted IMC member, eSAT’s partners are also developing several applications in asset tracking, environmental protection and public safety. eSAT CEO Rick Somerton has admired the IMC for some time and is excited to contribute more to global IoT deployments via GEO satellite potential.

“The IMC’s leadership within the IoT industry is admirable, and I feel privileged to be invited to join the Board of Governors,” Somerton said. “Our aim is to do something that no satellite company has been able to do –– take satellite connectivity to large-scale application with hundreds of millions of connected devices. I hope that, partnered with IMC members, we will continue to spread awareness of GEO satellites and successfully grow our businesses together."

eSAT joined the IMC at this year’s CES (News - Alert) in Las Vegas and, as of this article’s publication, more eSAT services are scheduled to launch in Q4 of 2023.
