SAS and CyberProtonics: Embedding Quantum-Resistant Encryption for Nanosatellites and Ground Terminals

By Alex Passett March 13, 2023

As common as the expression, “The sky’s the limit,” has become, so too has the concept of pushing innovation and exploring possibilities beyond our sky.

This is part of the mission of Sky and Space Company, Ltd. (SAS). SAS (News - Alert) is a provider of communication nanosatellite and software expertise. Since 2015, SAS has delivered communications infrastructure and services, and has supported modern space-based global communication networks via proven and sophisticated systems. (e.g., satellite-as-a-service, spectrum monitoring, advanced software development, and space systems engineering). Regulated by the UK Space Agency, SAS currently benefits from more than 50 agreements with future customers and explores what’s possible in IoT and the skies above.

Today, SAS announced a new partnership with CyberProtonics, a provider of next-gen, post-quantum grade data protection for SMBs and Fortune 500 companies alike. As the first cybersecurity company to create a breach immunity post-quantum encryption technology for micro SATCOM ground devices, CyberProtonics is committed to minimizing the socioeconomic impacts of cybercrime – from breach denial to breach immunity – via powerful, legacy-free, and cost-effective mitigation solutions.

Now partnered, CyberProtonics will be providing the first-ever, complete end-to-end encryption for SAS’s fleet of nanosatellites and ground terminals. Per CyberProtonics, “randomly modulating the key strength in flight makes its quantum safe security unsurpassed.”

“I couldn’t be more thrilled about the partnership with SAS,” said Richard Blech, CSO of CyberProtonics. “Our top priority is to protect the micro SATCOM next generation from malicious actors. We’ve developed the most advanced cryptographic products, utilities, and pluggable components that are uniquely designed for high-performance security. These will mitigate current and future breaches of data, at rest or in transit.”

SAS’s CEO Mark Gilroy also believes this partnership will put the company in the best position to protect customers and their data.

“With cybercrimes happening every eleven seconds, plus the increased need for homeland protection, SAS has chosen CyberProtonics to drive low latency next generation security protection encryption,” Gilroy explained. “We are pleased to partner with them because they offer the strongest, fastest, lightest impact encryption for the IoT market.”

SAS is set to start immediately embedding the proprietary tech from CyberProtonics as it prepares for the next launch of its constellation in early 2024.
