CyberLink and MediaTek Unite for Enhanced Facial Recognition Performance

By Greg Tavarez May 26, 2023

CyberLink, a manufacturer of AI facial recognition technologies, made waves in 2019 with its advanced facial recognition technology, particularly its FaceMe engine. Leveraging AI and deep learning algorithms, this innovative solution offers accuracy and efficiency in facial recognition capabilities, solidifying CyberLink's position in the field.

What makes the FaceMe engine stand out is its accuracy in face detection, tracking and identification. Powered by extensive training on large datasets, the deep learning algorithms enable the system to overcome various challenges such as poses, lighting conditions and facial expressions. As a result, FaceMe delivers precise results, ensuring reliable identification in real-time scenarios across images, videos and live camera feeds.

CyberLink FaceMe not only recognizes faces but can also identify gender, age and emotions. These features enable the turnkey FaceMe Smart Retail customer analytics solution to obtain insight into guest demographics, behaviorsand trends.

The impact of CyberLink's FaceMe facial recognition engine extends to numerous industries – from enhancing security and surveillance to enabling precise access control and from delivering advanced retail analytics to transforming marketing and customer service experiences.

CyberLink is committed to further revolutionizing facial recognition technology through the FaceMe engine and announced that its engine has been integrated with MediaTek’s (News - Alert) Genio 700 next-gen smart IoT platform, increasing AI performance.

Genio 700 is an advanced IoT platform that combines high-performance AI computing capabilities. This innovative system-on-chip incorporates a robust CPU, GPU and AI modules, specifically tailored for smart home, smart retail and industrial IoT devices. One of its notable features is the ability to support real-time AI facial recognition across multiple simultaneous video streams, thereby enhancing identification efficiency in implementation scenarios such as smart retail and access control.

Running on a Genio 700, the FaceMe engine is accelerated by MediaTek’s AI Processing Unit. Performance tests show that, in comparison to running exclusively via CPU processing, the APU hardware/software integration delivers a 6.5-times performance boost, with a 24% reduction in CPU usage.

CyberLink strengthens its presence in the smart IoT market as the new MediaTek processor provides its FaceMe facial recognition engine faster, more efficient and reliable AI facial recognition processing, meeting the complex, high-speed edge computing needs of smart retail and smart security and access control operations.

“The strong alliance between CyberLink and MediaTek, with its Genio IoT products, will provide FaceMe users with faster, more convenient and powerful facial recognition edge computing products, enhancing the security and dependability of deployed facial recognition services,” said Jau Huang, chairman and CEO of CyberLink.
