Trident IoT's Beginnings: Addressing RF Technologies and Key Supply Chain Challenges

By Alex Passett August 23, 2023

As its team has described, Trident IoT is “a technology and engineering company that is focused on simplifying radio frequency (RF) development, increasing product success rates and decreasing time-to-market for today’s connected device manufacturers.” It’s a great time to be operating in IoT, too; Statista recently reported that, as of 2023, $805 billion was spent on Internet of Things tech worldwide. So, Trident (News - Alert) IoT is committed to hands-on collaboration with customers, helping them pinpoint and deliver precisely what’s needed for “the most successful manifestation of their connected IoT devices.”

So, how long has Trident IoT been in the game, you may be thinking?

As it just so happens, the company took off this past week.

Headquartered in Carlsbad, California, Trident IoT was founded by Internet of Things veterans that seek to expand, right off the rip; to build new relationships, gain market knowledge, and rake in both IoT certifications and exciting human connections.

Trident IoT will be a direct supplier of Z-Wave solutions and a proprietary silicon and modules manufacturer (in addition to consulting on any RF technology, UL and ETL preparation, and more).

Why Trident IoT, though? Well, its founders came together after observing that supply chain chokepoints (and lack of access to IoT product-specific design consultations) are slowing down active development processes across the industry. Trident IoT intends on filling this gap with cost-effective solutions for bringing wireless products to market.

Though the company will offer consultation services for Z-Wave, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Thread and more, Trident IoT’s first chipset and module offerings will be part of the Z-Wave ecosystem. Z-Wave is the largest sub-GHz ecosystem of connected devices, with a proven track record of mesh connectivity, range, performance, reliability, security and interoperability. Trident IoT’s founders see tremendous opportunity for Z-Wave Long Range (LR), which has been pegged as being both underserved and underrepresented in the current market.

Per Mariusz Malkowski, one of Trident IoT’s founders:

"Trident IoT can streamline every step of the development process for Z-Wave devices equipped with next-gen advancements to the technology. We are the supplier source, the development and engineering partner and a Z-Wave certification laboratory."

In that vein, according to Colin Cureton, Senior Director of IoT Home & Life Ecosystems Marketing at Silicon Labs (News - Alert):

"Silicon Labs welcomes Trident IoT to the market as a provider of Z-Wave chips and modules. Diversity in the marketplace will lead to growth and innovation for the entire Z-Wave ecosystem, and the personalized attention and engineering expertise that Trident IoT's founders bring to the connected device development process is precisely what the industry needs to accelerate."
