ICYMI: Your Short-and-Sweet IoT Updates Before the Weekend

Howdy and TGIF, readers.

Since our last ICYMI in IoT overview, we’ve seen cross-industry developments for the Internet of Things — a phrase no longer relegated to buzzword status, or a for-techies-only concept — making interesting waves in both personal and professional spheres. Networks of interconnected IoT devices and services continue to cover consumer electronics, health monitoring wearables, software-defined vehicles, smart city infrastructure implementations, robust sensor networks, industrial robotics and automation; the list goes on and on.

So while we’re unable to cover everything listed above, here’s what’s on today’s particular IoT news docket for those interested in quick, point-by-point updates:

• Cal.net and Emergent launched a joint IoT network to close the connectivity gap for the agricultural sector (and, of course, many of the vital rural communities that power it). Full story here.
   
• Bot Auto, with its flagship autonomous truck fleet, recently completed an oversubscribed funding round ($20 million) and is very optimistic about both the safety and efficiency of its solutions. Full story here.
   
• Soracom revealed its latest global strategy for the connected car industry, with hopes to take on a larger and more important role in scaling the connected vehicle ecosystem while offering more flexibility and freedom of choice. Full story here.
   
• Semtech and Traxmate have developed a hybrid solution; specifically, with Semtech’s low-power, location-aware LoRa Edge platform and Traxmate’s specialized asset-tracking services. Full story here.
   
• Edgescale AI and Palantir have partnered up. Together, they’ll deliver Live Edge, “the next phase of AI that operates on real-world data.” This is poised to operationalize enhanced intelligence in settings involving IoT in manufacturing, utilities and elsewhere.
   
• Kigen (read here for a previous story of ours on the company) announced the availability of its Kigen eSIM IoT remote Manager for large IoT and consumer eSIM fleets. This market-ready solution a.) is fully compliant with the latest GSMA (News - Alert) SGP.32 v1.2 specification, b.) is compatible with Kigen eSIM consumer OS, and c.) is also compatible with existing operator Subscription Manager Data Preparation (SM-DP+) services.
