10 Years Later and IoT is Still Growing Jobs

By Carl Ford December 03, 2024

While the industry keeps heading into vertical markets, the trends show  that declaring IoT, and not just the application, is necessary.

Perhaps the issue is that without saying IoT somewhere in your profile the bio looks like all the legacy bios. Let’s look at the stats about profiles and bios.

According to my Linkedin search here are the statistics:

Among these are:

But of course, they all don’t have the same jobs, which is a double- edged sword.

On the one hand, you have identified like- minded jobs. On the other hand, you haven’t found those that relate to your application!

But let’s make some assumptions.

They probably aren’t looking for a new platform, but of course they will be happy to have you integrate into theirs preferably with their APIs.

You then have an entry point to a cloud company’s evangelist who will add you to a list.

Big deal? For you maybe.

What you want is to find a gap that’s hard for them. Some needs couldn't be prioritized because the vertical's internal compliance or complexity required too much effort or resources to address.

Once you find you have that it’s still is a future cold call unless your customer is so big it calls attention to you. But then comes the decision on the cloud company’s part, partner, purchase or replicate.

My advice: Don’t overestimate their cost to replicate, and don’t underestimate your immediate value. If talks go on too long, assume they have gone with door No. 3 and either innovate where you are or add on to another problem your customers have perhaps with a specific AI solution.

And now is probably the time to add AI to your IoT title.

Explore IoT-related topics by attending IoT Evolution Expo 2025! This will be taking place from February 11-13, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience, this event combines conference programming with a robust exhibit hall, networking events and other activities, promoting educated togetherness between buyers and providers of business technology products and services that are huge for the Internet of Things.
