Positioning for Greatness: New Automotive Solutions to be Delivered by Trimble and Qualcomm

Trimble (News - Alert) has announced an official extension of its ongoing collaboration with Qualcomm. Together, between now and 2028, they aim to deliver precise positioning solutions for autonomous vehicles.

“We improve performance through innovations that increase precision, drive efficiencies, and expand access to real-time insights,” one Trimble representative wrote. “This is about making a tangible difference for vehicle owners, carriers and shippers.”

Here are the long-story-short points regarding this continued Trimble-Qualcomm (News - Alert) collab:

• Trimble's precise positioning engine, Trimble ProPoint Go, will reportedly be integrated with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2 (a key automotive connectivity platform of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis solution) to deliver positioning accuracy within 10 centimeters.
• Trimble ProPoint Go is designed to provide position and orientation data from the fusion of GNSS signals, including globally accessible (and high-accuracy) Trimble correction services and measurement data from a variety of IoT sensors. This pairs well with the Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2, which features integrated Cellular-Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) direct communications, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), high-precision multi-frequency global navigation satellite system (HP-GNSS) and RF Front-End (RFFE) functionalities.
• With automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in mind, this integration is, quote, “capable of supporting Level 2+ and potentially higher levels of automated driving (AD) applications with reliable positioning for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and C-V2X for automakers and Tier-1 suppliers. With the Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2, customers can extend into Level 3 autonomous driving applications, and C-V2X solutions, with the same chipset.”
