As the husband of a long-time hospital patient, I am all too familiar with the problems of hospital dead zones. Several times, my wife was left by an orderly at a lab with no information of her whereabouts and no good status report.
Of course, some hospitals are better than others at providing status updates, but long-term patients with complications are usually an exception, even at those hospitals.
With Kajeet’s announcement that it will be at HIMSS25 to demo a private network solution with Cisco (News - Alert), I became very interested.
According to the announcement, Kajeet will demo as a Cisco Select Partner its “Healthcare 5G, a high-performance Private 5G Managed Service with Cisco’s Private 5G management platform to efficiently manage the private 5G network and Kajeet’s neutral host networks designed to solve in-building connectivity challenges for hospitals and healthcare systems.”
Hospitals seem to always be under construction and, between extending onto legacy buildings and the labs representing sever interference issues, there is a real need to enable areas for seamless, always-on connectivity as a neutral host – and to do it with built-in HIPAA, SOC, and HITRUST compliance. This is done with the integration of “Kajeet’s Sentinel platform for real-time policy enforcement paired with Cisco’s secure Private 5G for private network management.”
Kajeet points out that, “Hospital CIOs face ongoing challenges with inconsistent cellular coverage, network security, and seamless access to critical applications. Traditional Wi-Fi and public cellular networks often fail to provide reliable, hospital-wide connectivity for medical staff, IoT devices, and guest access.”
As AIoT continues to penetrate every industry, “dynamic traffic prioritization ensures that EMR systems, telemedicine, and medical IoT devices receive uninterrupted bandwidth.”
“Kajeet’s partnership with Cisco marks a significant step forward in bringing secure, hospital-wide private 5G to the healthcare industry,” said Ben Weintraub, CEO of Kajeet. “This isn’t just about connectivity—it’s about ensuring that doctors have instant access to records, patients experience uninterrupted care, and hospital IT leaders gain full control over their networks.”
Cisco and Kajeet will demonstrate Healthcare 5G solution various use cases, highlighting how hospitals can eliminate coverage gaps, strengthen network security, and enhance the patient experience. The demo will highlight:
“Cisco and Kajeet are leveraging our combined strengths to bring consistent, high-performing mobile connectivity and private network management capabilities to the healthcare market,” said Masum Mir, SVP and General Manager, Provider Mobility, Cisco. “Our Cisco Mobility Services Platform enables a wide range of enterprise use cases including Private 5G, and together with Kajeet, we can deliver secure and more reliable mobile connectivity, improved experiences, and ultimately provide a better patient outcomes for healthcare providers.”
I have my own list of hospitals that need immediate help, but I recommend every hospital take advantage of learning how to maintain connectivity now and in the future.
