Telefónica recently launched its global machine-to-machine (M2M) Module Certification Program, which is geared at helping Telefónica customers launch their own M2M products quicker while delivery a top quality of service by using technology that has been certified by one of the world’s top providers in Telefónica. The launch comes in the wake of dozens of different reports that all say the same thing: M2M device shipments are only going to increase as we move further into the 21st century.
M2M device shipments have been increasing exponentially in the industrial market for quite some time. Consumer devices are starting to pick up speed as well. Items likeroute optimization devices are helping the consumer and business markets alike. Telefónica believes its certification program will only help get top quality devices out to the markets that much quicker.
Telefónica is working with some of the biggest M2M device providers in operating this particular program. Devices from Sierra Wireless, Telit and u-blox have already had some of their newest devices certified. The program sends these devices through a complex series of test cases that include interoperability with the network, and other M2M platforms using the Global M2M SIM card. The most advanced M2M features, including Subscription Swap are also tested on these certified devices.
Telefónica believes that this program will allow customers to select the right M2M technology for them. Because the devices that are certified are all end-to-end solutions, customers can spend less time integrating the technology and spend more time on boarding the devices on a Telefónica network.
It’s clear that those companies that are already being certified by Telefónica believe the program is an asset for everyone involved. Dominikus Hierl, chief marketing officer at Telit Wireless Solutions talked about the program’s effect on his company’s success in a recent release, saying, “With this program, Telefónica and Telit customers globally can more easily access our top-selling modules, a number of which have already passed the program’s rigorous testing. These Telit, Telefónica certified module families become substantially simpler to deploy with outstanding support and network connectivity from one of the world’s top-rated cellular networks.”
