TMC, Intelligent Communications Partners Launch New Web Site, Conference Covering Smart Grid Technology

By IoTevolutionworld News July 27, 2009
Norwalk, CT, (July 27, 2009) — Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC) today announced a partnership with Intelligent Communications Partners to launch a new Web site and conference focused on Smart Grid Technologies.

The new Smart Grid Web site can be found at www.smart-grid.tmcnet.com.

The first Smart Grid Summit conference will be held Sept.1 in Los Angeles, Calif. This event will be collocated with TMC’s ITEXPO, the world’s leading trade show covering IP communications technology. By combining the unmatched reach of the ITEXPO into the communications sector with ICP’s focus on Smart Grid, the Smart Grid Summit is a truly unique, first-of-its-kind event to create a new community around the intersection of energy, telecom and IT.

Together, the Smart Grid site and Smart Grid Summit will be the most complete resource of Web sites, events, and other media dedicated to providing information on how utilities can deploy telecom-based solutions to not only make their grid smarter, but to enable the Smart Home and enable a new generation of revenue-generating services.

These resources and initiatives are devoted to a sector poised for the same fundamental transformation that telecom experienced with the advent of IP communications technologies. They will help utilities, service providers and vendors understand the role that IP communications technologies will play in how the Smart Grid evolves – not just for making utilities more efficient, but also to help the Smart Home and a new generation of communications innovations.

“The opportunity we see for IP communications within the Smart Grid space is comparable to what we experienced with telecoms, and it may even be greater. We have no doubt that the time is right to create a forum that brings these communities together to identify new and profitable solutions to make the Smart Grid work for everybody,” said Jon Arnold, co-founder of Intelligent Communications Partners, in a statement

ICP’s other co-founder, Shidan Gouran said, “Today, the Smart Grid is certainly about reducing the bewildering CAPEX of the electricity business. But it’s also the needed infrastructure for a gasoline-free world and will lead to an emergence of new services, products and markets similar in spirit and scale to the Internet revolution.”

According to TMC CEO Rich Tehrani, although the development of the smart grid may seem to be in its early stages, development of real solutions is not that far off.

“With the onset of the smart grid, we are anticipating new and revolutionary technologies and uses of communications that will have wide reaching impacts on our lives. And as a result, there is a definite hunger for information and a need for networking among individuals and companies working to quickly develop smart grid solutions. We are confident that the Smart Grid Summit and Web site fills that need,” Tehrani said.

The Smart Grid Web site launches today and features the latest related news, articles, blogs, product reviews, and other resources to provide users a wealth of information on this emerging technology. The content will be provided through original work from TMC’s editorial staff and ICP’s team of experts, as well as relevant news feeds. The site will be hosted on IoTevolutionworld, the largest Web site in the communications industry with an average of 2 million unique visitors and 40 million page views per month.

The Smart Grid Summit Conference will take place Sept. 1, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Topics covered at the conference include:

Grid Interoperability & Standards
As reflected by The Energy Independence and Security Act, the need for a common grid architecture, where all aspects of grid communications and control are standardized uniformly is of central importance to a proper functioning Smart Grid infrastructure. In this panel, members of various international and national standards bodies spanning the full spectrum of the communications industry, together with leading solutions providers will share their insights.

Energy Management in the Home
Home energy management will be a significant opportunity brought on by the Smart Grid. There are various issues which have to be addressed in this space: if real time-time data access is needed, device interoperability, the impact of regulations on a competitive landscape, issues of who controls devices and owns the data they generate, consumer privacy.

Emerging Opportunities
When the Smart Grid is connected to the Smart Home, we will have the required infrastructure to expand past energy management into many other fields enabled by real-time two-way communications. This session will explore emerging opportunities and business models that come with ubiquitous broadband, smart metering, and critical steps to reduce our dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

Regulatory & Policy
Major infrastructure overhauls on national and global scales can only work with the support of government. This panel will focus on exploring the proposed government mandates and incentives, both pros and cons. The policies decided in the near term will play a large role in defining the competitive landscape and ultimately affect consumers for many years to come.

Communications Opportunities for Utilities
One aspect of a smart utility is the capability to provide last mile broadband services. We will explore this from a technical, regulatory and business perspective. From choosing open standards at the physical layer to redefining the legal role of utilities, we will examine the decisions utilities must make to maximize their future worth.

Vendors interested in exhibiting at the show or advertising on the new Smart Grid Web site should contact Dave Rodriguez at 1-203-852-6800, ext. 146 or at [email protected].
