IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Stream, Mentor, Tata

By

Well, IoT Evolution World, we’re back again, and I hope you’ve had a nice week. I spent a few days out in Silicon Valley, rocking some great interviews with some of the hottest companies in the IoT. If you didn’t meet with me – where were you? I missed you. We’re planning a similar day for East Coasters, probably in New York, so look for that. Meanwhile, and as always, IoT Evolution Expo planning is going like gangbusters. We’re booking more speakers, more demos and more exhibitors in the Expo hall than ever before. If you want to get in on the action, hook up with Matt Gleeson, our Biz Dev maestro.

But now, the news. And what a week for that it’s been.

First up: a fun story about beacons in retail from freelancer Tara Seals. In it, she talks about how beacons and their related apps can do a number of things in an automated way, including spotting nearby previous customers and greeting them. And based on previous purchasing or opt-in behavior they can use the consumer’s taste and preference to deliver relevant information on products, special offers and deals.

Meanwhile, I spoke to Kurt Kelley, VP, Strategic Partnerships, Stream Technologies, and he gave me the lowdown on how enterprises can get connected and start earning cost-saving efficiencies as soon as possible.

Mentor Graphics announced an end-to-end IoT solution that features customizable gateway hardware and software, cloud services, and edge devices for the embedded industry. The customizable IoT gateway System Design Kit (SysDKTM) solution is designed to combine hardware and software to reduce risk and shorten time-to-market.

Tata Communications has successfully conducted trials of a new Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN), based on LoRaTM technology for IoT devices across Mumbai and Delhi in India. Tata said it plans to roll out India’s first LoRaTM network across the country, with full coverage starting in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. The first phase targets to cover 400 million people.

There’s plenty more to read, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Keep the IoT Evolution Expo in January in Fort Lauderdale in your calendar. We’re always looking for speakers, especially on the subjects of security and drones right now. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories. As always, if you have questions, comments, input or abuse, please send it to our editorial director, Ken Briodagh at [email protected] or on Twitter @KenBriodagh.
