People Moves: Synapse Appoints Johnny Thorington as CTO

By

Synapse Wireless, an Internet of Things (IoT) developer specializing in providing software, hardware, and networking solutions, has announced that it will name Johnny Thorington the company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). In this role, Thorington will oversee Synapse’s technological roadmap and ensure it is cohesively integrated with the company’s business strategy. Thorington succeeds David Ewing, who has served as CTO since 2011.

“It’s an exciting time for Synapse as we prepare to launch the next generation of our technology, SNAP 3, on October 15,” said George Myers, CEO, Synapse. “Johnny and David have been instrumental in developing Synapse’s Things Platform, which has been deployed in thousands of applications and has become the go-to ‘sense-and-respond network’ for industrial environments by providing true edge computing uniting end-point devices with the cloud.”

Ewing will continue working with Synapse as he pursues an entrepreneurial venture assisting companies to design and implement SNAP-enabled IoT solutions. Thorington will continue serving as VP & GM for Synapse’s Core Technology Group, and has been with the organization since April of 2014. Prior to joining Synapse, Thorington served as Product Development Vice President for the global telecommunications company, ADTRAN, where he managed product development of networking and communications equipment and infrastructure.

“Johnny’s appointment is an additional affirmation of Synapse’s commitment to becoming a leader during this important time,” said Key Foster, SVP of Synapse’s parent company, McWane Industries.  “As IoT increases the digitization and interconnection of products, companies are looking to invest in smart, connected products to maintain their competitive advantage and increase market share. Johnny’s experience and skill set are a great match for the opportunities in front of us.”

Thorington earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Vanderbilt University in addition to a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Auburn University Research Center, the Industrial Advisory Board for the Auburn University Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, and the Board of Advisors for Engineering Design Technologies Thorington-Hines Architects (EDT-THA) Inc., located in Huntsville, Alabama.
