Apply Now: Smart City Works Business Accelerator and Actuator Tech Talent Competition Open

Smart City Works Actuator is now accepting applications for its Fall 2018 Cohort.

The Smart City Works Actuator program is designed to identify, attract, launch, build, and grow next generation technology companies that improve the livability, operations, and resilience of cities and communities. This is accomplished by a rigorous three month residential actuation program conveyed in the DC Metro area is designed to improve the capabilities of CEOs and teams and weaves them into the fabric of the innovation ecosystem which is critical for their long term support and growth.

Every cohort gets better, and we couldn’t be more excited about this season’s themes.” “said Bob Mazer, co-founder of Smart City Works.

The Fall 2018 cohort focus areas include:

Transport: solutions that reduce costs, extend serviceable life, reduce congestion, improve intermodalities (between car, train, bus, bike, pedestrian), or leverage autonomous/intelligent transportation solutions to improve transportation infrastructure networks.               

Resilience and Public Safety: solutions and/or IoT technologies that address the safety, security and resilience of the urban public; that mitigate the   impact  of rising sea levels, extreme weather events, or other natural or man-made shocks; that protect critical infrastructure; or those solutions that allow cities to be more livable and sustainable.                                                                

Construction Techniques: Solutions that improve the design, construction, or maintenance of infrastructure; reduce lifecycle costs or improve safety,  schedules, or margins.                  

Use of Urban Data and IoT Technologies: Solutions that utilize community, city, state, national, or global data sets to better understand and solve for the most pressing urban issues; that utilize blockchain solutions to improve the value, use and trust of infrastructure sets; or that leverage IoT technologies and devices to improve urban outcomes.

Water Quality: solutions that improve our ability to clean, transport or understand the quality of our water using advanced techniques, tools, product, and/or services.

Affordable Housing: solutions and IoT technologies that improve our ability to reduce the costs of housing, to include how we build, operate or finance housing. Special consideration is being given for solutions that can in real time or near real time authenticate housing applicant income.

The applications are being reviewed starting August 14 until the cohort is full, with selections on a first come, first served basis. Final selection will take place in mid-September, and the cohort will start October 15.
