Opengear Lighthouse Wins 2020 Edge Computing Excellence Award

With SmartOOB and NetOps Automation, Lighthouse Delivers Presence, Proximity and Unparalleled Network Resilience at the Edge

EDISON, NJ – October 26, 2020 – Opengear, a Digi International company, and a leading provider of solutions that deliver secure, resilient network access and automation to critical IT infrastructure,  today announced that TMC has selected Opengear’s Lighthouse management solution as a winner of the 2020 IoT Evolution Edge Computing Excellence Award.

The new recognition marks the second award for Opengear’s Lighthouse solution in 2020, following its win at the 2020 Cloud Computing Security Excellence Awards.

The IoT Evolution Edge Computing Excellence Award, presented by IoT Evolution World, recognizes emerging leaders and breakthrough solutions in the growing edge computing space. Opengear’s Lighthouse management software was selected for its ability to enable advanced IoT deployments by delivering unparalleled network resilience, security and smart management tools for geographically dispersed networks.

“IoT and edge adoption is growing exponentially, introducing new points of failure, vulnerabilities and tremendous pressure on network infrastructure,” said Steve Cummins, VP Marketing, Opengear. “Lighthouse is deployed with our NetOps Console Servers for remote monitoring, provisioning and remediation of the IT infrastructure. It effectively creates an independent management plane – a separate network for the network engineer to use.

The Lighthouse management solution offers a user-focused centralized out-of-band (OOB) management centered on resilience, scalability, and preparing for a future of network automation and intensive edge computing. The solution leverages Opengear’s SmartOOB technology, using advanced console servers at each location, to separate the management plane from the production plane, which is prone to disruptions and attacks on user data that only multiply when new edge devices are introduced.

Lighthouse provides critical smart tools like failover to cellular and NetOps automation that work in concert with OOB to provide essential benefits such as remote monitoring, management and continuous internet connectivity during an ISP outage. These features can minimize the need for human intervention, reduce truck rolls and prevent lost revenue from business disruptions. These smart tools also swiftly detect, react to and neutralize network disruptions, and have become indispensable to countless Fortune 500 companies.

“We selected Opengear’s Lighthouse for the IoT Evolution Edge Computing Excellence Award for its innovation driving the fast-growing Internet of Things marketplace,” said Ken Briodagh, Editorial Director, IoT Evolution.” It is my honor to congratulate Opengear for their revolutionary work and contribution to this rapidly evolving industry,”

“It is my pleasure to recognize Lighthouse as an innovative solution that is helping move our industry forward,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC. “I look forward to seeing more innovation from Opengear in the future.”
