Efacec has been selected to deliver a new PRISM SCADA system to Moon Lake Electric Association.
Roosevelt, Utah based Moon Lake Electric is a rural electric cooperative, providing power to over 17,000 member accounts in northeastern Utah and northwestern Colorado. Chandler Fisher, technical services supervisor at Moon Lake, said that the cooperative selected Efacec for the personalized support they can provide to its SCADA system.
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, or SCADA, is a type of industrial control system. Said to have become an industry standard, the PRISM SCADA system currently operates in over 150 utilities worldwide.
Precision Real-time Information System Manager, or PRISM, is in its tenth major release. Company officials said that it reflects more than 35 years of electric industry expertise.
Moon Lake appreciates the foundation Efacec provides for future needs, Fisher said, adding it can grow as “we do, allowing us to add new functions cost-effectively on the same high-performance, real-time platform.”
In addition to Linux/Windows graphical user interface, the PRISM SCADA system order includes a knowledge-based alarm processing, real-time and historical trending system, historical/archival data model. It also comes with PRISM communications interface, application programming interface, DNPnet, and ePRISM browser based interface.
Additionally, Efacec is expected to provide backup and restore capabilities and a VPN router for secure remote support.
Efacec is a provider of smart grid solutions to the global electric power industry. The company’s software suite provides integrated distribution and outage management, simulation, optimization, and enterprise business intelligence.
Earlier in June, the company successfully delivered an upgrade to a Moore Systems MPS-9000S substation remote terminal unit (RTU) for Seattle City Light, making it the 600th second-source RTU upgrade Efacec ACS (News - Alert) has completed for utilities nationwide.
