IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Lancope, Sigfox, CytexOne

By

Well, we've had some adventures here at IoT Evolution World this week. I've been out in Las Vegas, scouting out our locations for the IoT Evolution Expo, coming up August 17 to 20 at Caesars Palace. While I've been gone, the IoT fat's been cooking in the fire without my help. Let's see what's happened.

Since I've been on the road, let's look first at how the IoT is changing hostelry, thanks to a new project from CytexOne, a connected environment developer. It has launched a new initiative called CytexOne Hospitality, which is said to be the first and only company dedicated to creating and managing smart hotel environments. The goal is to deploy IoT solutions for hospitality businesses that will improve staff productivity, guest comfort and building energy efficiency and security while maintaining a connected environment.

Now, a cautionary tale from our friend and columnist, James Brehm. In his new piece, “Are IoT Companies Full of __it?” he's warning the PR Hype machine not to get too excited when announcing a new development. It's not nice to lie, even if you didn't mean it.

In an industrial development in China, IoT company Jiangxi Outrace Technology has built a fully automated production facility that uses M2M tech to run the place so efficiently that the company eliminated 15,000 jobs. Perhaps we're reaching a point of having to choose between should and could when it comes to deployments.

To wrap it up, lets talk about healthcare. It's got lots to gain from IoT innovations like RFID and smart cabinets, but also a lot to lose in terms of data theft and privacy risks, both of which are holding up development. It seems like it's time to change that and get healthcare connected.

Visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Remember to register for the IoT Evolution Expo while the early bird discounts are still in effect. Only a little early bird time left. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories. As always, if you have questions, comments, input or abuse, please send it to our editorial director, Ken Briodagh at [email protected] or on Twitter @KenBriodagh
