IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Mitsubishi, Microsoft, Salesforce

By

Hello, friends. This is the IoT Evolution World Week in Review, and it’s a quick one this time, but don’t worry, there’s plenty more news, so make sure you keep clicking after you read these stories. We’ll get to the news in just a bit, but first a quick reminder about the IoT Evolution Expo in Las Vegas, July 11 to 14. If you want to get in on it as a sponsor or exhibitor, now’s the time, so hook up with Matt Gleeson, our Biz Dev maestro.

Our lead story this week was about the Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid, and how it was hacked by UK-based security firm Pen Test Partners. The successful hack allowed the penetration testers to shut off the vehicle's anti-theft alarm, in addition to accessing several other services. PTP has reported that Mitsubishi is now working with them to fix the problem.

And now, the news:

Cubic Transportation Systems, a business unit of Cubic Corporation, has announced the launch of NextTraffic, a connected transportation and traffic management solution using Microsoft’s Azure Cloud. NextTraffic combines transportation payment and information technologies with Microsoft enterprise solutions to create a flexible and scalable cloud-enabled platform.

Nokia recently closed the acquisition of Withings, a personal smart devices manufacturer best known for its digital, internet-connected scales that have been endorsed by magician Penn Jillette. The acquisition was originally announced in April, and will ease the path for Nokia to establish a new Digital Health business unit.

Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Demandware, a provider of enterprise cloud commerce solutions, according to a recent announcement. The transaction will reportedly be worth about $2.8 billion.

This week on the IoT Time Podcast, I sit down with Tom Hunt, CEO, Windspring, to talk about connectivity standards, the need for predictable costs in the IoT, and the role of the free market. This episode is sponsored by the IoT Evolution Expo. Tweet me @KenBriodagh.

There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Keep the IoT Evolution Expo in Las Vegas in your calendar. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories. As always, if you have questions, comments, input or abuse, please send it to editorial director Ken Briodagh at [email protected] or on Twitter @KenBriodagh.
