ICYMI: Your Latest 'IoT TGIF' Industry News Review

By

Describing the Internet of Things to those unaware of its full reach has changed over the last couple decades, sure, but also within the last couple years, to say the least. We’ve moved beyond the scope of limited fitness trackers and, say, one or two top-brand smart home speakers, given how IoT now fulfills and transforms so much for both consumer-driven demands and hardcore industrial operationalization.

In addition to innovations like in-depth personal health trackers, automated thermostats for factory settings that require consistent temperatures, and interconnected M2M software-defined vehicle systems, the relevance of IoT is now underpinned by fleet management optimizations, the streamlining of complex supply chain protocols, and even remote environmental monitoring capabilities in areas previously considered too rugged and wholly inaccessible when it comes to establishing reliable connectivity.

Nowadays, individual business leaders and global mega-enterprises alike must keep pace with the interconnected benefits presented by IoT to make increasingly informed, data-driven decisions and strategic plans for the road ahead.

The long-story-short of this, readers?

There rests great importance in scalable IoT, and we’re here to share several “of Things”-centric updates in today’s “IoT TGIF” news round-up.

Here’s what’s on the docket:

  • First – a quick reminder – the high-speed communications and IoT connectivity solutions provider Viasat is deep in prep for its upcoming Viasat ELEVATE global partner event, taking place from June 18-19 at the official Viasat corporate headquarters in Carlsbad, California. Business leaders at this event will be able to leverage the best from Viasat and its remarkable global presence. Attendees will also learn about Viasat’s direct-to-device technology roadmap, its Enterprise and Land Mobile (ELM) product portfolio updates (and market insights therein), and more concerning how the ELEVATE program can support businesses’ long-term growth ambitions. So whether you find yourself in business development, IT or OT, engineering, or in product or project management or purchasing – you name it, Viasat will support it – anyone interested should learn more and register by clicking here.
  • Segway, the popular provider of high-quality personal transportation alternatives, collaborated with none other than NVIDIA, a global giant in accelerated computing. Together, the two created a new developer kit designed to expand approaches to “the robotics frontier.” The Nova Orin DevKit reportedly “enables creators to bring their unique robotics to market more swiftly and efficiently” with new customization options for robotic mobility solutions, including automated guided vehicles, autonomous forklifts, indoor and outdoor delivery bots and more.
  • In additional industry collab news, the teams redefining modernized mobile connectivity at Omnispace have linked up with MTN Group, a large mobile network operator (MNO) in Africa that provides voice, data, fintech, enterprise, wholesale and API services to more than 296 million customers in 19 separate markets. As part of this deal, Omnispace and MTN agreed to collaborate on the development of “new and cost-effective global connectivity solutions beyond existing cellular, land-based networks” – basically, non-terrestrial network (NTN) and satellite IoT (satIoT) advancements. As Omnispace CEO Ram Viswanathan described, “This effort will offer access to secure, ubiquitous 5G mobile connectivity by seamlessly integrating our respective satellite and terrestrial networks. We’re pleased to work with MTM to deliver this first-of-its-kind, 3GPP standards-based solution to add NTN connectivity to a large ecosystem of compatible devices, products and applications.”
  • Wiliot, the “Intelligence in Every Single Thing” IoT company, already has investors that range from Amazon and Samsung to Qualcomm and PepsiCo. In Wiliot’s words, describing its goal to transform manufacturing and distribution applications, its team has said “From computer chips to chocolate chips, from pharmacy drugs to pleated denim, and from vaccines to veggies, there’s virtually no product out there that can’t benefit from our item-level awareness.” And recently, the data security and overall governance robustness of Wiliot’s platform was recognized by top independent examiners – Wiliot has achieved System and Organization Controls (SOC) 1 Type II and SOC Type II Reports, which was described by the company’s CISO Alex Gryniuk as “a true watershed moment in our compliance journey… this testifies the strength of our internal controls and validates our multiyear, fundamental commitment to security-focused technology markets.”
  • Lastly, ALifecom Technology. ALifecom works at the forefront of IoT; specifically, with wireless communication signal testing solutions and a focus on the provisioning of network testing solutions for premier industrial and consumer electronics manufacturers. Its R&D team boasts expertise in Wi-Fi, NTN, WiMax, 5G, 4G LTE/LTE-A, eMTC, NB-IoT and more, and earlier this year ALifecom announced the release of its integrated Non-Terrestrial Networks IoT Platform made for “embedding channel emulators into ALifecom’s NE6000 network emulators to effectively simulate and test viable NTN communications within a small-form-factor, user-friendly, and cost-conscious solution.” According to ALifecom, the platform’s flexibility extends to facilitating the verification and measurement of user terminal product designs, RF transmit/receive functionalities, performance metrics, and run-time behavior post-connection to NB-IoT NTNs.
