New Drone System Fits In Your Pocket

By Ken Briodagh May 13, 2015

In the cutest IoT-related news this week, Rochester, New York-based Axis Drones has announced a brand-new compact quadcopter and controller that literally fits into a pocket.

It’s intended to be used as a practice unit to help budding dronists learn control and have some fun with little expense. The Wallet Drone has full flight mechanics, can be charged with the case while in the field, and because of its size can go anywhere with little or no trouble.

The size is its most outstanding feature, of course, but the charging capabilities are also important for its successful operation. It can charge while docked inside its controller pack, using four AA batteries, or with the included USB cable, if near an external power source. It can fly with as little as 15 minutes of charging time.

Each Wallet Drone packages comes with the 1.5-inch wide drone, the 2.4 gHz remote controller and docking station, a USB charging cable and a spare set of blades. It comes in green, yellow, orange and blue.

The company is raising money for final tooling, packaging, testing and production on Indiegogo, where its goal is almost $12,000 to complete its first run. It’s already raised almost $40,000. This is the second model in a line of inexpensive hobbyist-targeted quadcopters and drones that the company has lined up for 2015.

Watch the video for a closer look at the Wallet Drone, and head on over to Indiegogo if you want one.
