Kyndryl, Nokia Pairing Puts LTE, 5G & Industry 4.0 in Focus

By Maurice Nagle February 17, 2022

The factory of the future is not as far as you think. Innovation at the edge, further 5G deployment and an eager enterprise landscape makes for fertile ground. Change is coming.

Nokia and Kyndryl take the wrapper off a new global network and edge computing alliance. The duo aims to deliver secure, reliable and flexible LTE and 5G private wireless, with of vision of private wireless playing a pivotal role in accelerating Industry 4.0.

"As enterprises across every industry are seeking new ways to digitally transform their operations, 5G and edge computing are growing so they can harness the promise of these emerging technologies," said Paul Savill, global practice leader of Network and Edge computing for Kyndryl.

The pairing produced a solution combining Kyndryl’s consulting, design, implementation and managed services with Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (NDAC) to assist the Industry 4.0 transition, introducing legacy operations to cloud, IoT, AI and other innovative technologies to fundamentally transform manufacturing and distribution.

Putting talk into action, the two firms illustrated efficacy in private LTE and 5G real world deployments, displaying PoCs in worker safety, collaboration, asset tracking and more for Dow Inc. Early results breed plans for further expansion for Dow, with Nokia and Kyndryl possessing the blueprint to ease deployments at all of its facilities.

"By collaborating with Nokia, we're taking another step forward in helping our customers unlock the power of LTE and 5G through a secure, private environment that helps them deliver tailored enterprise-grade edge solutions that drive new value for their bottom lines and next gen customer experiences."

Manufacturing is a logical starting point to address in the industrial ecosystem. And this is only the beginning for this pairing of industry pioneers.

Learn more about innovation in 5G and best practice to embracing Industry 4.0 at the upcoming IoT Evolution Expo taking place June 21-24 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. See you there!
