ICYMI: Four High-Level Recaps from Innovators Across IoT

By Alex Passett August 09, 2024

TGIF, readers!

This morning, I was thinking about how many sitcoms and romcoms and such will portray a big speech (i.e. a moment at a family gathering, a long wedding toast, etc.) and the character speaking will – in a very, very corny way – start out a trite-sounding introduction like “Webster’s Dictionary defines love as…

So old hat, right?

But if I were to, say, start an article in this fashion but quote IBM (News - Alert) instead, that probably flies in a non-corny way, right?

Well, when else to give it a go than in our usual “ICYMI IoT TGIF” piece, yeah?

Here goes:

IBM defines the Internet of Things as “a network of physical devices, vehicles, appliances, and other physical objects that are embedded with sensors, software, and network connectivity, allowing them to collect and share data.”

Not corny at all, so far.

In fact, we do happen to cite IBM quite often; be it here on IoT Evolution World, GenAI Today, MSP Today — you catch my drift. IBM is turning heads (given the advances it’s making in highly valuable, responsible AI and IoT – and by the way, “AIoT,” a.k.a. the Artificial Intelligence of Things). IBM knows how great IoT tech can be when utilized wisely; smart thermostats and reliable home security, health wearables and RFID-enabled clothing, industrial-grade sensors, tracking automated fleets and sensitive in-transit assets, environmental monitoring and so on. More interesting info from IBM about evolving “of Things” topics is worth a glance here.

So in this vein of IoT-everywhere news, let’s stick to our own peek into what’s happening in the IoT space.

On last week’s ‘ICYMI’ IoT round-up (read here), we covered we covered renowned water data company Divirod joining the SAS (News - Alert) IoT Partner Ecosystem, software company GridMatrix deploying its cloud-based platform to resolve mobility challenges and optimize systems at Port Newark and the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal, Airspan debuting its Airspan (News - Alert) Portal for managing private cellular network (PCN) capabilities, etc.

Today, let’s scroll through a quick handful of other recent IoT updates you may’ve missed:

That about does it for today, y’all. For additional news from our team, we encourage visiting our other sites like Industrial IoT News Hub, Smart City Sentinel, and Internet Telephony.

Stay hydrated and rested, everyone. Take good care.
