Emergency Responders to Use IoT Data to Improve Response Times

By Ken Briodagh October 28, 2015

If the IoT can’t make the critical functions of society more efficient and effective, why, I wonder, are we bothering with connected curling irons and the like?

Well, thanks to a new partnership between Gemalto and Intrado, a leader for 9-1-1 solutions, the IoT is getting some real work done. Intrado is now deploying Gemalto's cloud-based Sensor Logic Application Enablement Platform to translate important data and send alerts to emergency teams with the goal of improving response times and outcomes, and monitoring developments as they occur.

The platform collects data from remote sensors, analyzes it and sends it on to Intrado's middleware for dissemination to first responders via a secure web portal and SMS alerts. Through an app on a smartphone, tablet or other connected device, live information from operations is always at responders’ fingertips, including dynamic weather conditions, video footage from IP cameras and GPS location of incidents.

“We selected Gemalto technology based on their wide range of expertise in IoT projects of all sizes,” said Kevin Coyne, VP, Product, Intrado. “With proven technology and support from Gemalto plus our longstanding experience in emergency services, our solution makes it easy to go from concept to field deployment.”

“The SensorLogic cloud-based M2M solution gives safety and rescue teams more actionable data to pull from when they are making decisions on day-to-day activities or during time-sensitive and urgent response situations,” said Juan Carlos Lazcano, VP, M2M for North America, Gemalto. “Our flexible and ruggedized platform can work across many use-cases depending on the need whether it is mission critical, track or trace, or even a more connected experience when camping.”

Bring on the curling irons.
