MaaS Global Whim App Wins Nordic Smart Cities Award

By

At the Stockholm Smart City conference on November 2, MaaS Global’s Whim app won the Nordic Smart Cities award as the Disruptive Innovator of 2016, according to a recent announcement. The event gathered together cutting-edge technology innovators from all over the world.

The event was designed to offer ideas to city leaders to help them create smarter and more sustainable living environments. The theme was Sustainable, Innovative, Connected & Together – the City 2.0.

MaaS Global snagged the award by showing itself to be a disruptive innovator with the development and creation of its Whim app, which is designed to bring new alternatives for citizens for their daily commutes and other forms of mobility. The winner was chosen by the audience, and in this case, monthly mobility subscription was seen as the way of the future for city residents because it was helping them to find a true alternative to car ownership.

“MaaS Global aim to revolutionize the way that we consume travel. An alternative to car ownership that is not only cheaper but a lot more efficient. A truly disruptive innovator,” said Philip Bell, event organizer, Nordic Smart Cities.

MaaS Global has also recently won the Helsinki Smart City Action award 2016, which was given at the end of September. Sami Pippuri, CTO, MaaS Global, said he sees both awards as praise for hard work.

“We have a strong vision where we are aiming at and the whole team is excited to make this vision real with our Whim application. We see cooperation with local players as one of the most pleasant thing and we are looking forward to continue discussions also with Nordic countries to develop smart MaaS solutions for future citizens.”
