Mobile and Wireless Group Brings Windows Mobile Handsets to Europe

By Anamika Singh May 13, 2008
Mobile and Wireless Group (MWg) announced that it is entering the European market with its latest Windows Mobile handsets.

MWg, a Singapore-based company, develops and markets premium converged devices for the global market. The company was created by the former management team of O2 Asia in November 2007, when the parent company Telefónica O2 Europe, decided to shutdown this "non-core asset" business.

"We see ourselves in a unique position of having inherited the premium heritage of a global brand and the agility and flexibility of a start-up." stated Mark Billington, CEO of MWg. "As a start-up, we naturally work with like-minded and innovative partners to offer an engaging experience for our customers. Our devices are designed to complement the consumers' lifestyle needs."

"Windows Mobile is about creating mobile connections, helping people do more with work play or anything in between no matter where they are,” commented Alfredo Patron, EMEA regional director, Microsoft Mobile Communications Business.

"We are excited to see MWg expand their innovative Windows Mobile phone offerings to Europe and look forward to compelling new hardware designs and device specs that will expand the possibilities of what people can do while on the go,” added Patron.

In addition to “MWg Atom” that the company inherited from O2 Asia and “UbiQUiO 501” and “503g”, the company is launching two more devices for its European market; the just released Atom V and the soon to be launched Zinc II.

Atom V features built-in SiRF Star-III GPS, FM Radio, 3.5G HSDPA with speeds up to 7.2Mbps, onboard WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0. In addition to this impressive technical specification, it boasts an attractive design with slim 14.95mm profile and a brilliant 2.8 inch touch screen.

The company also announced that it is accepting pre-orders for its Zinc II, which although similar to the Atom V features, it offers a semi-automatic sliding keyboard ideal for messaging and internet browsing, a slightly more compact form factor and Microsoft's latest OS, Windows Mobile 6.1.
